CZK 100 = a safe night and a chance to start over
Even a little help can have a huge impact. Nocleženka is a voucher worth CZK 100 that allows people without shelter to spend the night in the warmth of one of the Salvation Army's Night Shelters. It not only provides a bed, shower, and food, but also contact with a social worker—the first step toward returning to ordinary life.
For many people who find themselves without a roof over their heads, a Nocleženka means more than just a warm place to sleep. It is a lifeline that allows them to survive the winter, but also a space where someone can start looking for a way out of their difficult life situation with them," says Jana Berčíková, head of direct work at the Salvation Army in Brno.
Without Nocleženka, a large number of people would not use the Night Shelter service at all and would remain on the streets overnight. During the winter months, the Salvation Army provides approximately 2,500 places across its social services every day so that people experiencing homelessness can spend freezing days and nights in a safe and warm place.
The Story of Marie
Marie lived for years in a troubled and violent relationship. One winter evening, her partner threw her out of the house, and she found herself on the street with no money and no place to stay. The first place where someone helped her was the Low-Threshold Day Centre and Night Shelter of the Josef Korbel Social Services Centre in Brno.
With Nocleženka Vouchers, she was able to sleep peacefully at the Night Shelter for several nights. Social workers helped her deal with her complicated situation, and thanks to her own efforts, she soon moved to a Hostel. Here, she not only found safe accommodation, but also psychological support and help with official matters.
She joined programs for women who had experienced similar stories. In a friendly group, she found understanding, peace, and a renewed sense of safety. Today, she lives independently and works. She says that, in addition to a roof over her head, she has found hope and dignity.
