A design legacy renewed
Willem Hendrik Gispen laid the foundations of the brand’s design philosophy in 1916: furniture should be functional, beautifully simple and made to last. His tubular-steel furniture went on to become an icon of Dutch design. More than acentury later, the renewed collection remains true to this heritage while responding to modern expectations of comfort, flexibility and sustainability.

The collection was unveiled at Rotterdam’s Van Nelle Factory, in the city where Gispen’s story began. Rolf Verspuij, CEO of Royal Ahrend, and Maurits van Berckel, Commercial Director at Gispen, presented it to journalists, designers, architects and partners.
“Gispen Classics marks the beginning of a new chapter. The collection feels both familiar and renewed,” says Maurits van Berckel.

Historic inspiration, contemporary materials
Colour and texture play a central role in the collection. Working with design studio Raw Color and weaving mill Enschede Textielstad, Gispen developed Repeat, a limited-edition fabric in which colour and weave reinforce one another. It offers a contemporary interpretation of a historic Gispen textile and gives the collection a distinctive new expression.

Designed for a long life
The robust, recyclable tubular-steel frames are designed for years of intensive use, while the fabrics have been selected for their circular properties. The upholstery can be replaced as needs and tastes change, allowing each piece to be renewed repeatedly.
In this way, Gispen Classics unite enduring design with a future-proof approach: recognisable from the past, relevant today and ready for tomorrow.
