Apps that bundle dozens of different services into a single environment are gaining traction in the Czech Republic. Instead of separate apps for payments, loyalty cards, or buying tickets, users now need only a single super app. Banks and carmakers are among the first in the country to embrace the concept, with examples such as ČSOB’s DoKapsy app and Škoda Auto’s MyŠkoda app. Both solutions were developed by the Czech technology group Etnetera Group.
Unlike single purpose mobile apps, super apps function as digital platforms that integrate a broad range of features and services – often including third party ones – into a single user experience. The goal is to offer the widest possible palette of services without forcing the user to leave the app or repeatedly log in elsewhere. Within one super app, users can not only manage their finances but also buy tickets, pay for parking, or even control their car.
From single function to full ecosystem
While individual apps address a specific need, super apps build an entire ecosystem of services. This approach significantly simplifies the user experience and increases how often people engage with the app. For companies, it enables deeper knowledge of their customers and the ability to provide personalised services at the exact moment they are needed. The transition from single purpose tools to multifunctional platforms is one of the most important directions in mobile technology development.
“The time when people had a separate app for every service – sometimes even multiple apps from the same brand – is over. Today, users expect applications that adapt to them, offer relevant services, and provide the right solution at the right time. That’s exactly where super apps are heading. Our goal is to make the smartphone a true digital assistant: a platform that connects services, simplifies everyday life, and delivers exactly what people need when they need it,” says Miloš Felix, CEO of Etnetera Flow.
On the Czech market, the principles of super apps are emerging primarily in the financial and automotive sectors. ČSOB’s DoKapsy app, developed by Etnetera Group, combines mobile payments, loyalty card management, public transport ticket purchases, and parking payments in a single interface. Users can therefore handle many everyday tasks without opening several different apps.
Etnetera Group has taken a similar approach with Škoda Auto’s MyŠkoda app, helping the carmaker develop and unify several earlier apps. MyŠkoda allows vehicle owners to remotely control car functions such as air conditioning or locking, schedule service appointments, and access a wide range of digital services connected to vehicle operation. The app has become the central hub for drivers’ interaction with their cars and related services.
“For users, super apps mean simplification – one icon, one account, and one interface they can get used to. For operators, they create opportunities to build stronger customer loyalty, analyse user needs in detail, and target communications and offers accordingly. Data protection and customer trust play a crucial role in the super app discussion. This makes them particularly well suited for players who already have that trust – well known brands, local lovebrands, banks, or even state institutions. Only then can they deliver platforms that users rely on and never betray that trust,” concludes Jiří Štěpán, CEO of Etnetera Group.
