Recruitment and HR consulting company GoodCall has released the results of its new Skills Gap 2025 study, which examines the current state and future needs of companies when it comes to employee skills. The survey, conducted among 50 major employers across industries, reveals that Czech companies are facing a critical shortage of key skills while actively looking for ways to prepare for the future.

Rapid technological development, shifting customer behaviors, and an evolving labor market are putting increasing pressure on organizations. Yet companies often find that their employees’ skills cannot keep pace with these changes. The GoodCall report highlights where the gaps are deepest, how companies assess their impact on business performance, and which competencies are seen as critical for future success.

Key findings

  • 66% of companies report missing soft skills such as resilience, flexibility, and adaptability.
  • 30% of respondents said that bridging the skills gap would boost their business results by more than 10%.
  • 95% of companies expect to reskill at least part of their workforce within the next five years.
  • 54% of organizations lack a clear view of which skills they will be missing in the three-year horizon and beyond.
  • 97% of firms agree that strengthening digital competencies will be essential across roles and departments.

What does this mean for the labor market?

The study confirms that employee skills are becoming one of the most important drivers of business competitiveness. It’s no longer enough to focus solely on technical expertise – organizations are placing greater emphasis on adaptability, collaboration, leadership, and working with modern technologies.

“I’m not surprised that many companies today cannot precisely quantify the impact of missing skills. But what stands out is that 30% already see a clear effect on their results – and in some cases, it represents up to a twenty-percent increase. That’s a major economic factor,” says Blake Wittman, Chief Growth Officer at GoodCall.

Skills-based hiring as a way forward

The report also features expert commentary and case studies from GoodCall, illustrating how skills-based hiring can help companies identify candidates with immediate added value – regardless of their formal education or years of experience. In addition, the report includes a practical checklist for HR professionals and managers who want to start applying this approach in their hiring practices.
