Albert presents sustainability results: technology and data save resources and make work more efficient

In June 2026, Albert Czech Republic presented its fifth Sustainability Report. Representatives of professional organizations, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, food banks and other stakeholders attended the ceremony. The event showed how modern technology, data and automation help Albert stores reduce unintended environmental impact, streamline operations and improve customer experience. The report received an unusual launch – it was introduced to the world by artificial intelligence.

The event, which was attended by almost forty guests, featured speakers from Albert stores and partner organizations. Aleš Kupčák, Director of Customer Technology at Albert stores, presented how artificial intelligence at Albert supports the customer experience and the daily work of employees. Věra Doušová from the Czech Federation of Food Banks, in turn, spoke about how food donations from Albert stores help people in need. Last year, the retailer donated more than 4,300 tons of food and once again became the largest corporate donor to food banks.

Michaela Stachová from the Business Leaders Forum presented the AI Compass project – a framework for the effective, ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence that supports sustainability, reduces environmental impact and helps meet ESG goals. This was followed by a rather unconventional launch, in which AI played the key role.

Throughout the event, participants were able to learn about technological innovations that Albert stores use. A cleaning robot was cleaning the space and they could see electronic price tags and mountings for payment terminals, which Albert designed and manufactured using 3D printing.

Smart retail: technology for efficiency

Albert uses modern technology and artificial intelligence to operate more efficiently and meet its sustainable goals. “Thanks to innovation, data and automation, we find smarter solutions for customers, colleagues and environmental protection. These are not one-off projects, but a systematic change that has concrete results in the form ofsaving paper, plastic or reducing the use of electricity,” says JiříMareček, Director of Sustainability at Albert stores.

Thanks to data and machine learning, Albert can plan stocks more accurately, respond to demand and reduce waste. Technologies also help save energy and reduce emissions, for example thanks to smart LED lighting, temperature sensors and modern cooling. Robotic cleaning machines that optimize water consumption and employee work also contribute to savings. Artificial intelligence makes the work of employees easier – for example by automatically recognizing goods at checkouts.

Fifth Sustainability Report Presents Projects and Data
