We all need to see a doctor from time to time. But who treats the wounds and eases the pain of people experiencing homelessness? It is the doctors and nurses at Salvation Army Doctor's Offices. And also the Health Care Voucher - a voucher worth CZK 250, thanks to which we provide outpatient health care to people who are homeless and socially disadvantaged.
Just as by purchasing a Night Voucher you donate a night in a warm place, by purchasing a Health Care Voucher you provide wound treatment or pain relief to those who cannot go to a regular doctor's office.
For example, for two Health Care Vouchers, we will perform a preventive examination and laboratory tests for an uninsured patient, or for ten vouchers, we will treat a person suffering from poor hygiene and infested with parasites.
Insurance companies cover only a third of the costs of running the offices. We cover the rest from subsidies and, above all, from donations, which is why your support—as donors—is crucial to us. The more funds we secure for the operation of the offices, the more care we can provide to those in need. In 2024, we treated 6,787 patients.
"Prevention and regular medical care are always cheaper than later hospitalisation. The Salvation Army Doctor's Offices help not only patients but also the entire healthcare system by reducing the burden on hospitals and emergency services," says Jan František Krupa, National Director of Social Services.
We have been operating a general practitioner's office in Ostrava since 2018 and in Prague since 2022. We are waiting for a new doctor in our renovated premises in Brno.
Thank you for caring about the health of people without homes, and your own.
