At the beginning of 2025, the official launch of the Gispen WIZZ chair marked a significant step in the evolution of educational and flexible seating design. Developed under the renowned Gispen brand under Royal Ahrend—the WIZZ reflects a shared commitment to circularity, social responsibility, and innovative design. This synergy of expertise enables Gispen to serve the entire educational spectrum, from primary schools to universities, with versatile, future-oriented furniture.
The WIZZ chair, designed by Kees de Boer, is inspired by today’s dynamic learning environments. It meets the needs of students and educators alike by combining ergonomic functionality with exceptional flexibility. Whether used in classrooms, relaxing areas, or communal spaces, the WIZZ supports a wide range of postures—forward-facing, reversed, or relaxed—reflecting De Boer’s design philosophy: “The best posture is the next posture.” The chair’s subtle recline and responsive backrest enhance comfort while promoting active engagement, which is essential in modern educational settings.
The WIZZ stands out for its strong commitment to circular design. Manufactured entirely in the Netherlands with local suppliers and partners, the chair is composed of fully replaceable and recyclable components. The seat shell is primarily made from recycled plastic fruit crates, while the durable steel frame is designed for long-term reuse, easily reintroduced into the production cycle after years of use. This approach minimizes waste and extends each chairs’s lifecycle—ideal for institutions prioritizing sustainability without compromising on quality.
Available in three sizes (S, M, L) and a range of vibrant and natural colours, the WIZZ is to fit both children and adults. Its lightweight construction and integrated handle make it easy to move and reconfigure, supporting adaptable learning environments and multi-functional spaces. Whether facilitating group collaboration or a teacher leading a focused session, the WIZZ adapts effortlessly to different activities and spaces. Its versatility makes it suitable not only for education but also for offices and healthcare environments.
The development of the WIZZ also exemplifies Gispen’s dedication to social inclusive. In Arnhem, many components are assembled by skilled colleagues with limited access to the labour market, integrating social impact into the very foundation of the product. The WIZZ represents more than exceptional design, it embodies Gispen’s mission to build a more inclusive and responsible future through furniture that is designed to last, evolve, and empower.
You are warmly invited to discover the comfort and design philosophy of the WIZZ first-hand at the Ahrend showroom in Prague, where the chair is displayed. The future of seating is here—lightweight, flexible, and purpose-driven.
