Awarding ceremony Bike to work 2014

Almost six thousand business professionals and office employees from 900 companies commuted over one million kilometres (km) in the project Bike to work 2014 that took place in 19 Czech towns during May 2014. 

The 4^th year of the project was the apparent breakthrough and Bike to work competition became the whole nation phenomenon. The project organized by Prague’s organization Auto*Mat was supported by locals from Brno, České Budějovice, Hradec Králové, Jablonec nad Nisou, Jihlava, Karviná, Jindřichův Hradec, Liberec, Olomouc, Opava, Ostrava, Otrokovice, Pardubice, Plzeň, Praha, Přerov, Uherské Hradiště, Ústí nad Labem and Zlín.

The main aim of the annual competition was to increase bike commuting to work in cities and towns and thus promote healthier environment for the cities and their inhabitants. Participate could each employee that managed to organize a team that consisted of 2 to 5 people and regularly commuted to work on a bike with his/her colleagues in May. The rides were registered on www.dopracenakole.net and teams that biked most frequently or biked the longest distances had the possibility to win attractive prizes. There was also a possibility to compete in creative categories or win the title “Cyclo-employer of the year” which was awarded to a company that provided the best support and service for its bike commuting employees.

This year’s Bike to work project was a successful project overall. There was an increase reached in the number of participants (from 4 000 people in 2013 to nearly 6 000 in 2014), in the number of participating companies (from 780 to 900), in the number of cities involved (from 11 to 19) and in the number of media outputs (from 200 to 300). The visibility was undoubtedly increased thanks to the support of the main media partners Ihned.cz, Aktualne.cz and MEC.

Regarding national contest results title “Cyclo-employer of the year” was awarded to Bosch Diesel, s.r.o., Jihlava and the best internal contest for its employees was made by Gambro Czech Republic, Přerov.
