Albert Presents Its 2024 Sustainability Report

6 October 2025

Albert has published its fourth annual Sustainability Report, highlighting progress in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) areas. The report was officially launched at an event attended by journalists, stakeholders, partners, and colleagues. The ceremony was symbolically opened by MUDr. Petr Tláskal, Chairman of the Czech Society for Nutrition.

The fourth non-financial report was launched by Petr Tláskal, Chairman of the Czech Nutrition Society

At the heart of Albert’s sustainability efforts remains one clear ambition: good food should never go to waste. Thanks to advanced technologies, smart discount systems, and a deep understanding of customer shopping habits, Albert keeps food waste below 1% of its total volume. Surplus food still suitable for consumption is donated, making Albert the largest corporate food donor in the Czech Republic. In 2024, Albert aims to donate 4,000 tons of food through food banks – building on the 3,850 tons shared last year.

Albert is also pioneering food upcycling, giving ingredients a “second life” by creating new products such as banana bread, fruit cakes from ripe fruit, and pizza snacks using deli trimmings. In 2023 alone, customers bought 120,000 pieces of banana bread, saving 10 tons of fruit from going to waste.

The 2024 report shows strong progress across sustainability priorities:

  • 59% reduction in own operations emissions since 2018 (Scopes 1 & 2). Albert remains on track to achieve carbon neutrality in its operations by 2040, and across the value chain by 2050.
  • Packaging improvements: one-quarter of Albert’s private label packaging is now recyclable, reusable, or compostable.
  • Healthier choices: more than 1,500 healthy products are now offered under Albert’s private label brands.
  • Social impact: The Albert Foundation celebrated 15 years, donating over CZK 12 million in 2024 to help children and young people in need.
  • Diversity & inclusion: four generations worked side by side in stores, and women held 57% of leadership positions.

The new report adopts the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), bringing greater transparency and introducing new topics such as biodiversity, waste management, and human rights across the supply chain. The full version of the report is available in Czech on 👉Albert’s website.
