Air France-KLM Group is proud to maintain its presence on the DJSI World and DJSI Europe Indices for the sixteenth consecutive year.

Air France-KLM is still an industry leader, recognized for its sustainable commitments, with the highest score on environment in 2020.

Remaining on both World and Europe DJSI indices for 16 years now, this significant accomplishment acknowledges the Air France-KLM Group's continuous commitment to improving its long-term sustainability policies and to transparently disclosing its performance.

Every year, the DJSI releases a ranking of the most sustainable listed companies based on sustainability practices and performance surrounding governance and environmental and social responsibility, each in different categories. While previously ranking first in the airline industry category on the DJSI World Index, this year Air France-KLM was supplanted by All Nippon Airways (ANA); however, Air France-KLM maintains its leadership position amongst its European peers.

Being recognized as an environmental leader for the airline industry category reflects the Group’s efforts on the subject, as well as its goal of being recognized as a leader in the sustainable transition of the airline industry.

The Air France-KLM Group has committed to reduce its environmental footprint and global CO2 emissions / pax / km by 50% by 2030 (compared to 2005):

  • By modernizing and renewing its fleet with the latest generation aircraft technology, which translates to lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions (Boeing 787, Airbus A350 and A220, Embraer 195-E2), and by phasing out older aircraft (Airbus A380 and A340, Boeing 747)
  • By contributing to the development of a bio-fuel sector: since 2008, Air France-KLM has been actively involved in the development of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) and has contributed to several programs that facilitated the usage of SAF

More than ever, in this unprecedented crisis, the Air France-KLM Group is committed to accelerate its sustainable efforts.

In addition to the environmental responsibility, the Group has committed to a broader social and societal responsibility. It employs 83,000 people in 118 countries, and has a global presence with over 300 destinations served in 2019:

  • By renewing its social rights and ethics charter “AFKL Principles”, signed by the CEOs of Air France-KLM, Air France, and KLM in 2020, the Group reaffirmed its commitment to create a work environment where all employees can flourish and are able to contribute to Group performance. Those principles are the foundation for the social, economic and cultural cohesion within each company and within Air France-KLM Group.
  • By helping local development, the Group and its employees support various projects. For example, 70 million Flying Blue miles (worth 1,653 tickets) were donated to NGOs through Flying Blue, in 2019.
